What are your hobbies?

There is no one thing I’m fanatical about. I have various interests. I’m a keen cook and love to create new dishes and then invite my friends over to taste them. I love playing cards, especially Uno. Most of my friends are crazy about karaoke and I go with them from time to time but it’s not really my kind of thing.

What is your favourite musical instrument?

What is my favourite instrument? I would have to say the piano. I’m not a big classical music fan on the whole but I do love a bit of piano. It’s the emotion it can express that fasc inates me, the way man and instrument become one and the pianist gets lost in the music.

Do you prefer action films or comedies?

Neither really. If I had to choose between them I’d pick comedies, but what I really like is
horror films, especially those involving ghosts. I enjoy getting a good fright.

Do you think it is important to read novels and poetry?

Well, my teachers always told me it is. But reading, I can take it or leave it. I can’t remember the last time I picked up a real page-turner. I don’t think it’s important to read. You can be entertained by films and you can be educated via the television, watching documentaries and so on. So, I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything.

I watched television yesterday. I finished my homework and I watched a couple of soap operas with my friends.

What do you usually watch on television?

I usually watch reality TV shows or game shows. I sometimes watch drama series too.

What are some popular programmes in your country?

TV is a very popular in my country. There are lots of channels. Soap operas are very popular. Everybody watches them.

Why do you think some TV programmes are popular?

I think soap operas are popular because we like watching characters in real life. The characters are like friends or neighbours. It’s good entertainment, because it is sometimes relaxing and sometimes exciting.

Films

Do you enjoy watching films?

Oh yes. I’ma bit of a film fanatic actually. I watch films most weekends and quite often during the week as well. I much prefer films to TV programs.

What kinds of films do you like most?

Ireally like a wide variety of film genres. But if had to choose a type of film. I’d say I mainly go for suspense, psychological thrillers. In fact some of my favourite films are the old Hitchcock films – he really was the master of suspense.

Did you watch much TV as a child?

No, I didn’t. My parents encouraged us, that’s my brothers and me, to spend time outdoors rather than sitting inside watching TV. So we only ever had the chance to watch TV for an hour each evening before we went to bed. I can’t say it was very common because most of my friends watched loads of TV.

Are foreign language films popular in your country?

No, they’re not really that popular compared to domestic films. I mean there are some Asian films from India and China, as well as some films from Europe as well but I think having to read the subtitles puts people off watching them. It’s a shame really because I think it’s important for people to watch more foreign language films in order to learn more about other cultures.
